Join Captain Rick Mezich and the crew of The Fierce Allegiance as they work the frigid waters between Russia and Alaska during the brutal '99 snow crab season, a season that took the lives of seven good men. Crab fishing in the middle of winter off the coast of Alaska is extremely dangerous. On average, one man will die every week, sent to a watery grave by rogue waves and sinking ships. Why do they do it? Perhaps because crab fishing is thought to be one of the last great gold rushes in the world. In a good year, an experienced deck hand working the short, eight-week season can bring home almost $50,000. But this isn't easy money. Crushed fingers, crippled hands, cracked ribs and broken feet are common in this working environment where the injury rate stands at almost one hundred percent.

Three teams have won five Super Bowls. The San Francisco 49ers were the first to do it. In 1981, just two years after finishing with a 2 and 14 record, Head Coach Bill Walsh's "West Coast Offense" fueled the 49ers victory over the Bengals in Super Bowl XVI. By 1984, the 49ers were a dominant team, becoming the first team ever to win 15 games in the regular season. They finished the season by defeating the Miami Dolphins in Super Bowl XIX. Four years later, Joe Montana led San Francisco on a desperate 92 yard drive, tossing the winning touchdown pass to John Taylor with 34 seconds left in Super Bowl XXIII. In 1989, Walsh retired from coaching, he was replaced by George Seifert and the 49ers never missed a beat. San Francisco won 14 games plus two playoff victories that year and scored a record 55 points in the 49ers complete dismantling of the Broncos in Super Bowl XXIV. In 1994, the 49ers won their 5th Super Bowl, this time behind Quarterback Steve Young. Young, who had lived in Joe Montana's shadow, burst into the spotlight and tossed a record six touchdown passes as San Francisco defeated San Diego 49-26 in Super Bowl XXIX. The story of San Francisco's 1981 season is told by wide receiver Dwight Clark, offensive lineman Randy Cross and Hall of Fame Defensive Back Ronnie Lott. 1984 is relived through the remembrances of tight end Russ Francis, linebacker Keena Turner and defensive back Dwight Hicks. Hall of Fame Head Coach Bill Walsh, offensive tackle Harris Barton a

With a focus of the Perseverance rover mission, the "Quintessential account of one of humanity’s most intriguing quests" (Pail Halpern, Medium), "A remarkable, timely, and up-to-date account of Mars exploration" (Leonard David, "Space Insider," Space.com).
From
The War of the Worlds to The Martian and to the amazing photographs sent back by the robotic rovers Curiosity and Opportunity, Mars has excited our imaginations as the most likely other habitat for life in the solar system. Now the Red Planet is coming under scrutiny as never before. As new missions are scheduled to launch this year from the United States and China, and with the European Space Agency's ExoMars mission now scheduled for 2022, this book recounts in full the greatest scientific detective story ever.
For the first time in forty years, the missions heading to Mars will look for signs of ancient life on the world next door. It is the latest chapter in an age‑old quest that encompasses myth, false starts, red herrings, and bizarre coincidences—as well as triumphs and heartbreaking failures. This book, by two journalists with deep experience covering space exploration, is the definitive story of how life's discovery has eluded us to date, and how it will be found somewhere and sometime this century. The Search for Life on Mars is based on more than a hundred interviews with experts at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory and elsewhere, who share their insights and stories. While it looks back to the early Mars missions such as Viking 1 and 2, the book's focus is on the experiments and revelations from the most recent ones—including Curiosity, which continues to explore potentially habitable sites where water was once present, and the Mars Insight lander, which has recorded more than 450 marsquakes since its deployment in late 2018—as well as on the Perseverance and ExoMars rover missions ahead.
And the book looks forward to the newest, most exciting frontier of all: the day, not too far away, when humans will land, make the Red Planet their home, and look for life directly.
Debuting in 2003, this CBS crime drama focuses on a government agency assigned to investigate cases involving Navy and Marine Corps. Personnel from outside the military command structure.
